About The Artist
Behind the Pencil; An Artistic Journey
John is a hyper-realist whose practice centers on graphite, charcoal, and pastel—favored for their ability to evoke dramatic tonal depth in black and white, yet wielded with equal mastery in full color when the subject demands. His fascination with drawing began in childhood and was reignited during practical lessons with a celebrated Italian-trained master painter and restorer, whose rigorous classical approach laid the groundwork for John’s disciplined, self-directed study over the past decade.

To refine his craft, John has pursued advanced instruction with some of the foremost figures in contemporary realism: hyper-realist authority Emma Tower Evans, Argentinian illustrator Néstor Canavarro, Italian realism maestro Simone Mulas, and oil-paint virtuoso Fabiano Milani. Each mentorship has expanded his technical repertoire—sharpening his precision in graphite, deepening his command of pastel layering, and informing his seamless transition to oil when a project calls for it.
John’s collaborative experience is equally distinguished. He formed part of a professional team that produced two monumental church icons—each spanning roughly 8 × 3 metres—executed in oil, gilded entirely with genuine gold leaf, and completed over month-long residencies alongside internationally acclaimed liturgical artists. These projects honed his large-scale compositional planning and perfected his gilding technique, skills he now brings to private commissions and exhibition pieces alike.
Whether creating a bespoke portrait or demonstrating his process live at local exhibitions, John caters to every surface with exacting detail and empathetic insight, intent on conveying the inner life of his subjects. For him, art remains a boundless field where imagination is the only limit.
